Walther Cancer Research Center
In addition to the establishment of the Hillebrand Center and the Clinical Research Center, there will be continued expansion of the basic laboratory research within the Walther Cancer Research Center. The genetic basis of colon cancer and prostate cancer is now being explored with unique animal models developed in the research center. The genetic information may provide the basis for understanding the origin of these diseases as well as provide molecular targets for the development of new drugs and other treatments. Novel drugs are being designed and natural products which have shown promising activity in the treatment of a wide variety of cancer are being studied.
